Description

Numerous downhill routes start in Leukerbad and end in the Rhone Valley. This low-traffic ascent variant is ideal for all those bikers who want to do without the bus shuttle and get from Leuk to Leukerbad with their own muscle power (or motor). It leads via Leuk, St. Barbara and via Albinen to Leukerbad.

Turn-by-turn directions

The ascent starts at Susten trainstation and leads through the pretty little town of Leuk high up into the "Dalatal" valley. After a short, steep gravel road, you reach the main road at St. Barbara. After a few hundred metres, a narrow side road branches off to the right to the hamlet "Tschingeren" and climbs with a pleasant gradient up to the rustic mountain village of Albinen. From here you reach the main road high above the Dala valley to the Flaschen / Scales of Albinen "Albinenleitern" turn-off and back to Leukerbad. Caution: Brake after the tunnel and climb a few metres up here onto the hiking/nature trail. It leads at a constant altitude to the valley station of the Torrent cable car and directly to the village centre.

Other ascent variants are also recommended: instead of crossing the main road in Leuk town, follow it to the left to Varen. A high bridge leads over the impressive Dala gorge into the pretty wine village of Varen. A side road branches off to the right here to Inden. Carved into the steep rock face, it leads above the gorge to Rumeling. What a magnificent view! From Rumeling, it is best to pedal up to Inden via the main road and return to Leukerbad via the "Larschi Rundi" route.
